unleashed thoughts from B’ham #1
observe-wonder-perceive

Left the residential area and went straight to the main road to observe the activity inside cars on an early-morning traffic jam. I realised that people are quite asleep repeating the same gestures on a road that they have known for years. Children on the backseats are awkwardly quiet, parents drive quietly. I smell nothing but car exhaustion fumes. Everything flows. Sadly quiet.
I turn no to the buildings on the side of the road. Why the f*ck is “the world’s largest privately owned IT Group European Headquarters located here? I’m struck by the fact that the parking lot of this company was thoroughly designed in order to offer the Chairman the shortest possible route between his/her vehicle and the main entrance. There is a hierarchy to respect in parking lots’ design.
I wonder if failure can knock on the door of someone whose job is to wear large florescent gloves matching a fluorescent gabardine and go 3 steps forward and then 3 back when someone wants to cross the road. I guess it is a constant knocking.
Why do people leave here??!!? This place is the ultimate happiness preventer.

Why do people live here? Did you realize you wrote ‘leave’ instead of ‘live’? That’s how strong that neighbourhood affected all of us I think. The UHP (ultimate happiness preventer) is a powerful device – I wish there was a simple answer to why people want to subject themselves to these constraining mechanisms…
